VideoGamer.com's Developer Blog

a blog by VideoGamer.com Developers

In the early hours of Wednesday morning we switched some of the site over to our new platform, which we've been planning and constructing behind the scenes now for several months, and is the product of our new workflow. In the following weeks we're going to be switching the rest of the site over to it, bit by bit.

So, what does this mean for our readers?

The new platform is going to help us turn around releases much quicker, which means features (and even sites) launching in smaller chunks but more often.

The first visible output of the new platform is the login, registration, and settings system, which has been entirely replaced. A lot of thought went into the design of this, and you're that way inclined, you can read about it in detail on Joey's blog. The system is vastly improved, but is still only the first version, and we'll be adding to it over time with things like social network integration.

Aside from this launch, we've also made some other tweaks to the site.

The latest videos box on the homepage has been re-designed and we think makes this more useful to readers.

We also renamed 'hubs' to 'platforms' in the nav, and added the WiiU platform, alongside a little home icon when you hover over the logo.

As always if you have any feedback, let us know in the comments, on the forums, or by email.
