A bold decision, and one which is likely to split the community, but to "disqualify all remakes and HD re-releases from our Game of the Year vote" is something I applaud you for.

A good article about a great game.

Good article, completely agree with the sentiment. I'd have liked to see remakes in the list for Game of the year, though. To me a good game is a good game and a remake has to work just as well on a new format as it did on the original, if not better.

If an old game on a current format beats a new game then surely that says something about how great both the game and the programming behind the remake has been?

Yeyyy! It certainly doesn't feel like a 12 year old game, and many of the games released this year could learn a great deal from Ocarina of Time. Oh, and there were 3 timeline splits in the Zelda canon Tongue Mind. Blown.

I agree that remakes should be separate from normal game of the year discussion. Should the game be compared directly to 2011 releases? How much commendation does a game deserve for being great so many years after? Can we really assess the quality of the game in isolation of the year it was released? Oh, and nostalgia, bad memories etc

It gets complicated, and who really wants to see remakes in a top 10 list? I would like to see them in a list of their own, though.
