It is always interesting reading about the conception of titles that are well-liked. One of the main draws of Retrogamer magazine are such pieces. As such, this may just be a preordered title, if the sample reads well.

There is a book, Masters of Doom, that recounts the biography of Romero and Carnack (IIRC) as well as documenting the processes that led to the development of the ever-popular Doom. Fascinating read.
