It's a bit depressing really. Couldn't Nintendo have forked out for slightly better parts than their seven year old rivals? Even just to outperform them a bit would have seemed a bit more sane.

Still, who's really getting a Wii U to play games like Cod on anyway...?

Oh good, people still think Wii U is on par with current gen systems. Thanks, games media.

The visuals of this one port have nothing to do with Wii U's technical capabilities.

Whilst Reggie is very over-exagerative in this case, I think given time developers will learn the hardware and the Wii U will out preform current console by a noticable margin. The (original) Wii out performed 6 gen hardware by a lot as well, but not many people were willing to give it the light of day. Hopefully the Wii U will be different and developers will be bothered to try and learn the hard ware.

Personally I still think Wii games look like Gamecube games, very little improvement other than the control scheme and general focus from one gen to another imo.

The biggest hurdle consumers may have with a Wii U purchase is that when the PS3 and 360 came out there was such a MASSIVE upgrade in power from all aspects of the console experience. Hardware, community, marketplace you name it there was a big improvement.

This time around people already have just about anything they might need, all thats required is to improve what we already have. And in order to do that takes either a huge leap in hardware power to approach current gen PCs, or a huge leap in infrastructure in order to approach something like Steam levels of community/marketplace.

The Wii U represents none of that. They're still lagging behind Live and PSN in there NEXT gen offerings and the power of their new hardware is also under question. last gen, there was no question, everything was better. And thats what I believe consumers are looking for. Everything to be better.

Compare launch 360/PS3 games to games that are available now.

One could argue that devs HAVE had time to get used to programming to consoles of the Wii-U's calibre - 7 years worth. Such a comparison would be instantly flawed, unless this debate may be revisited in another 7 year's time - which I have no doubt it likely will.
