Super Mario 3D Land, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask or one of three other titles available for free to 3DS XL owners.

While it's a good offer, the fact that these EStore games can't be downloaded on to another 3DS if yours breaks is a real pain. You can't even ring Nintendo and ask them to transfer it because they just can't do that.

It's the main reason I haven't changed my 3DS for an XL, I'd lose all my GBA, GB and DS games on the SD Card and wouldn't be able to transfer them, including the ton of free ones I got for being an early 3DS adopter.

You can transfer games and save data from one 3DS to another, the problem being that it would require you to have both 3DS's in working order and in your possession at the same time. If your first one is broken then your screwed.

But if you just want to get an upgrade, from old 3DS to XL, then it's entirely possible if that is what you wanted/ meant?

This is a good deal, but like I said with the Vita and PS Plus, I don't see business sense (other then increasing consumer morale) to giving away some of the games biggest games on the platform, (system sellers like Mario 3D land, and to some people Layton) so early in the consoles life. The PS3, with PS plus gets away with it because it has a huge back-catalogue and a good number games coming out each year. This is something that hasn't happened for the 3DS or Vita yet.

It's a way of tipping those on the fence (about upgrading from 3DS to XL) over it. I was quite happy with my DS Phat for ages, and never wanted to jump to DSi until I got one for a christmas present. I'm also quite happy with my 3DS, but have been wondering about making the move to XL. This probably still won't shift me, but ... it has certainly made me look at the price involved, and this knowledge will stick with me if I see any really good deals for the XL.

I bought a 3DS XL last weekend. I personally think its a lot better than the original 3DS model.

Yeah, that's a good point, but I'd probably need to trade in my 3DS at the time. Although, now I think about it, I may be able to ask the guys in GAME if I can transfer there and then at the store.

I loved the original DSi XL, but I thought the 3DS XL was kinda disappointing with its lack of a built-in circle pad pro controls. Having said that, 3D appears to be more stable on the bigger screen, and the stalus is more accessible and less annoying to use now.

Btw not all of my downloads transfered over, and I had to redownload some of the content from the store, losing some saved games/highscores in the process.

Game should let you Smile

@BC
I find the 3D is more usable, the screen size is a lot nicer, the weight is perfect and the battery life seems to go on forever (compared to the 3DS).

Probably a case of personal preference. I just prefer the XL Smile

I doubt a built in circle pad will ever, happen. Nintendo doesn't want to segregate the 3DS install base and alienate the 21 million current 3DS owners. Beside there are very few games use the circle pad pro, and the majority of the games that do (Kid Icarus, RE: revelations, MH:3G), all seem to have fine control schemes without the circle pad. I think it was a mistake to release the circle pad pro to begin with, Nintendo should of just stuck to their guns with the design to begin with.

Also, I thought as long as you saved the SD card data on a computer from the original 3DS, then copied the data onto the SD card of a newer 3DS, you would not lose anything. I don't have many big SD cards at home, (the largest one being my 3DS 4GB card). I copy my 3DS save data to a computer a lot, so I can shuffle files on a digital camera, then paste the data back. I haven't had a problem with loss of data as of yet. May I ask what data was lost when you transferred/ upgraded?

I got an XL at launch. Much better placement for the Stylus and better Start/Home/Select buttons.

So the free game is a bonus. I'll go for Layton. Been meaning to pick that game up Grin
