Review encapsulates pretty much what I felt to be the core gameplay observable in the demo... oh well, here's hoping it flunks sales-wise.

"There’s a lot to be said for having your choices restricted by artists and creatives who might just know better."

^That is a really important line of text that has been stuck in my mind pretty much this entire generation. A lot of open world, or user generated content games flying around these past few years and most of them lack this principle.

    Anyway, back to Dead Space..

I feel devastated. Partly with a feeling of "I told you so". But mostly because, as most of you know, this is a franchise I hold dearly. The irony of me calling Dead Space out as the new Resident Evil, only for them to make the same foolish mis-steps that Capcom made and actually become the new Resident Evil is upsetting.

Here's an idea; EA, stop pushing for such frequent franchise releases. You're not allowing enough time for creativity to flourish and instead creating a factory line of mediocre games. (They read this blog, right?)

Dead Space was spectacular. Visceral had the time to research the genre they were mimicking. They had time to conceptualise and world build. They had time to perfect suspense and mechanics. Dead Space 2 lost a little something by becoming an action shooter, but still had a lot to show off about. Dead Space was their baby and they wanted to show off so much more that they had learned from Dead Space 1. But 3 games in such quick succession? Thats a tough call. Creativity is drying up, the franchise isn't feeling so fresh as it was, the development team has been working on the same thing for, what, 6 years now? And a publisher is on your back. Its hard to come up with new ideas. Make your own guns is weak and co-op is forced in what should be a survival horror game.

Get this Visceral/EA, you didn't need to change anything other than the location! Crazy, huh?

If they had made a new location with the intensity of the U.S.G. Ishimura, then EVERYTHING else about Dead Space could have remained the same (Maybe chuck in a few enemy types).

I'll still play this, as a fan of the franchise, but I'm upset that all the issues the gaming community claimed would arise, have arisen.

(I've written a lot there straight from the heart and I'm at work so don't have time to proof read. Apologies if its all a bit disjointed)

    EDIT:
Yup, just seen a few other reviews. Seem's like this is a case of reviewer not enjoying the game, as opposed to it being a bad game. It doesn't make this review any less valid, as all gamers are different and I imagine it was being reviewed from honest opinion. Once again proving that reviews are merely opinions.

Anyway, having done more reading I'm feeling more encouraged about playing Dead Space 3, now.

Also, I agree with Clockpunks sentiment regarding DLC.

Just want to point out that this is the lowest review given to the game by any established gaming website. As it currently appears, opinions on the game are widely varied( 5-9.75)- with a middle ground of about an 8. I am content with an 8, not every Dead space game was going to be an A+ game and I knew it from the moment I realized I was in love with the ip. I wouldn't pay a heck allot of attention to the review above though, as it is a good 2 points below every other review on the net.

Apparently the first campaign DLC has already been announced: 'Awakened', which will feature 'some of the most disturbing content they have ever seen in a Dead Space game'.

You couldn't make this up - even the horror is being sold separately!

Tut, tut, Denton. Reviews like this won't get you on the EA "approved reviewers" list!

Yes, by including ONLY THE SCORES THEY LIKE, EA are able to announce that this is a 91 rated game. Include this review on its own, and that average drops to 83.

However, it does have to be said that most other places do seem to like it a bit more than this reviewer. So far, this is the clear low mark.

Such is the reason I VERY rarely read the freelancer reviews at VG, there are some that I like, Sam White for example, but normally I only read Tom Orry's and, when he was here, Martin's.

Yes just like Hitman which was a decent game, either way I'm commited to the game now as I promised to do the co-op with someone but I would have cancelled due to the co-op A.I DLC rubbish.

From now on I get the game if I fancy it as reviews are starting to become a waste of my time and money. I think in general people should get the game if they fancy the look of it and not get put off by what one person has said, Hitman is a great case for me anyway.

      Finally :P

Yes, always make up your own opinion on games. We're all different.
