Giving players immediate access to Michael, Franklin & Trevor would have 'hurt gameplay and story', says Rockstar.

I was disappointed to hear that the whole map was available from the get go as its what GTA has always done keeping you from everything at the start, it adds a sense of progression, a set goal something that pushes you to want to explore more and San Andreas did it best especially driving stoned up to San fierro, but mainly it gave you the chance to learn your way around an area and take in everything. So glad to hear they at least keep all the characters separate at the start hopefully this will keep the early missions focused around the same local area so that can be learnt, there isn't anything worse than not knowing where your going saints row always takes a while just cause is nigh impossible and batman Arkham city's city all looks the same as does far cry all because they don't give you the chance to learn the different areas.
