I am playing this game now and finding it a bit buggy. A couple of times it has lost my last save, as well as a problem I had with one of the boss battles. Apart from that it's nice having a more open world approach. I cannot wait to see what they bring from this game into LotR.

Okay then, I've been playing this for quite a few hours now and although for the most part I have really enjoyed the game I do still have some gripes with it.

Firstly the level design. The open world is great but the quest levels have one big flaw: they don't allow you to travel back. One level might consist of three or four sections, and once you progress from one to the next the game will not allow you to return to your previous section. This is incredibly annoying when trying to get all the collectibles. Miss one and you have to start the level again. "Why not save?" you might ask, well that's my next umbrage.

Saving on this game is a pig. I was playing a level I have played many times now (skip to the end for further details) trying to collect the remaining mini-kits, true hero and citizen. I had just completed the penultimate section, having collected 8/10 of the mini-kits, rescued the citizen and achieved true hero. I decided to 'Save and Continue' but accidentally clicked 'Save and Exit'. I was cross because of the wasted time, but when I went back into the level I was at the save point, with 8/10 mini-kits, rescued the citizen and achieved true hero to my name. I completed the level and then all of the collectibles popped up at the end. True Hero; check. Rescued Citizen; check. 2/10 mini-kits; WTF? Serious? You combine this bug with my previous disgruntlement and you have quite a big issue.

Perhaps 'Save and Continue' is better then. Well it is, but it is still broken. I then tried another level, completed the penultimate level and saved. I completed the level but again lost some mini-kits. Not as many as last time, but I still have to do the level again.

My last point is that the game does not allow you to end the level once you have got all the collectibles. You could, at any point, have collected them all but you still have to play through the rest of the level for it to register. This might related to the save bugs or it might be by design (more likely). Whatever the reason this, and the problems above, are making achievement hunting a lot less enjoyable than it could be.

Regarding your last point, save and finish is the option you want to use.

I tried that. The collectibles don't register.

I have played level 5 about five times now thanks to the various failings of the Save system. The only way to do it, it would seem, is play through the whole damned level without saving and let the 'End of Level' bit save it for you.

Thought I had replied to this yesterday but looks like it didn't go through.

Save and Finish only gave me trouble on one level. The game crashed on me, rebooted the PS3 and restarted at my checkpoint with 8 of the minikits bagged. Went on to get the other 2 and did the Save and Finish but it neglected to add all the minikits I'd found up to the checkpoint.

I had more issue with Gotham City. Not sure if this is PS3 specific but the game struggles to keep up which meant waiting for items to appear on screen. This made the gold brick collection more trouble than it had to be, could never be sure if I was at the exact spot or if the game hadn't loaded. My final brick was a flying section, the start of which took close to 30 seconds to appear.

Forgot about that one. I had the same problem too. You'd arrive at a location and have to wait for the [insert collectible of choice here] to appear. I'm also playing on PS3, so cannot confirm/deny if the issues are console specific.

Does it even do online co-op?

I assume so. Poor show if not.
