This is a little sad from Ubi. So many games/companies offer a choice of gender with a far far smaller team. Granted I'm not a developer and privy to their work schedules, but surely they could have gone for the extra effort. Are there no female NPCs in the game at all? You can render Paris beautifully, but not animate a female assassin, you've done it before why can't you now?

You'd think of the 50,000 or so people who work on Assassins Creed games, a few of them would be able to work on animating female characters. It can't be that high on their list of priorities if it's something they're willing to cut so easily.

They did one that was black AND A WOMAN once in a spin off so that means they dont have to include it again for a while...

I'm always skeptical when they roll out the development cost excuse. It sounds ludicrous but I know nothing about game development. Do the animations need to be all that different? Do you need to add video game girl run?

Bioware is developing an extremely huge new Mass Effect 4 game with HQ graphics, new worlds, new plots, and new characters including aliens of varying complicated designs. And they offer a female lead in not only this game, but the previous 3. And their Dragon Age series.
Just saying. There's no bloody excuse when a company producing character designs for ever-changing alien races can offer female leads.

And by the way--one single SIDE game with virtually no presence in the series and certainly no established presence in the plot with a female lead doesn't constitute equal representation. Pointing to a single woman in a room of 50 men and saying "but it's totally fine!" doesn't make for an argument in the least.

This is clearly bull*****. It's just laziness or apathy on their part, they had enough time and people to make a flipping female character...

A shame they can't include it.

Hopefully this will be something amended in the next game after this (it almost definitely will be).

It definitely is going to rub people the wrong way but from the way he was talking it sounds like a case of either push back the game or get it out on time.

Don't think it's laziness, I just think it's something had to go and unfortunately creating a unique character with unique animations and clothes would take quite some time to do.

The problem arises though that if they've done it before surely it wouldn't have taken much longer to add to the existing assets and then go a bit further.

It's one of those odd situations where if they'd said nothing it'd all be ignored. Games come out with only one playable gender all the time.

As a friend said, it's an unfortunate reality of games purchasing that I'll not be able to buy Assassin's Creed Unity. But that IS "a question of philosophy".
