Plain Sight Review
Quote:
Plain Sight is a fantastic concept that is ultimately let down in its execution. Still, it's a steal at £7.99, and is well worth checking out simply for the bizarre awesomeness of it all.

I suppose it's the stance you choose to take.
Like you said, you'd take indie games with a pinch of salt,
whereas some people may expect them to suffer the same criticism as a bigger budget game.
neither opinion is wrong.

Indeed, I always feel.

"Example"

Indie Studio-1-20 staff max - MAybe self publish, so less dev time

Big dev (say Blizzard) - like 4 thousand staff - Published by Acti-Blizz and take so long making there games its not funny xD

That is an extreme example of course not all those staff work on one game, a lot will be Gms etc but you see my point sort of :P

A good note on this is a review I just did of Beat Hazard which I gave a 9, its made by 1 guy, if maybe 50 people worked on it Id have given it less.

I totally accept your view,
and in actual fact, I share it.
By not taking into consideration the team size and finance we're putting Indie games at a major disadvantage where they could never really hope to score highly. And with most people only caring about the scores, that way, most Indie games would never get played and just be brushed aside.

I agree with this view too, in fact. But even from an indie perspective, Plain Sight is still flawed. I'm not going to pretend the game didn't frustrate me purely because it was developed independently -- I'm going to highlight the problems with a game regardless of who made it.

Just as a little addition to this discussion, I'll let you know that Braid is my third favourite game of all time. It's a shining example of how big budgets aren't required to make exceptional games, and Jonathan Blow's next project (which is supposed to be an RPG of sorts) is up there with my most anticipated games of the year (if indeed it's even out this year...)

To me, cost is always an factor in a game. Ultimately, the game has to be worth the price of admission in a competitive market. It not about amount of resources, it is about what is done with the resources you have!
