We look at the current state of the PlayStation 3 to see if we Europeans are really missing out? Has Sony actually done us a favour?

We have the PS3 here and the comparison has been made. The verdict is QUITE clear. There is NOTHING the PS3 does better that the 360. that is fact. Sorry to put this in as short sentenced fact, but it is. My brother has the Sony and was all excited about it.He can have it. In the states we have the PS3 in all the stores, where they are sitting now that all the PS freaks bought them at three times the price. the 360 rules, and deservidly so, but the Wii is the wild card. that console is as scarce as hens teeth since the launch and still is. I can't understand what anyone is talking about the online and multimedia strengths are with the Sony for. you connect an Ipod and you can't access the songs, Like you CAN and always could with a 360. You can see folders but not individual songs...and it came out a year later than the 360. The 360 allows you to access your mediacenter PC to record your TV shows and pause live TV, like Tivo, except for no charge. We are now able to download real high def tv and movies, and QUICKLY now that MS has modifies their servers. All the best games are on the 360 and it has fully twice the memory for the graphics for video playback...Oh yes... My friends in the UK haven't compared the two side by side yet like we were able to ...The 360 kicked ass this christmas, and there was a reason....When you get the Sony and compare them side by side....you'll see...you'll see...

A decent review, most points are covered. I still can't justify the price and there isn't anything on it that I want yet. My 360 rocks and I'm not made of money (mortgage, truck payment, insurance, etc...) In a year or two maybe I'll pick one up. The most that I have played one is at the store and it looked decent but I'm not going to play brand favorites. IMO if you're still on the fence and have the dough pick up both because reguardless what anyone says SONY's console will sell and enventually have decent games. Or you can keep playing your PS2 and wait until the prices on both systems drop.

Sony hasn't done anyone a "favor" by delaying the European launch but themselves. It was an internal decision due to the much publicised manufacturing problems of the blu ray driven which left them with large hardware shortages. Don't be such ignorant loyalists. Would you consider it a "favor" if the Wii was delayed until Mario arrived next year? I don't think so. Consumers are consumers. Who writes this stuff?

Is this not a rather fanboy conclusion for a game journo to come to?

Surely releasing a console with half baked services and games lineup is a bad thing for the consumer, not a blessing to those you've restricted it from!

interesting! everyone who has an Xbox 360 seems to hate Sony and the PS3. is this to simply justify their purchase!

I believe that the Xbox 360 is a very powerful system. but, you also , as a 360 owner, have to look at the PS3 objectively. yes, I agree with you that the price is high, but other then that , the PS3 is very good product. just remember that one of the most know games and looked for are coming to the PS3 only such as MGS and FF and many others. you also have to know the power of the Sony and PS3 brand. where I live, no one knows what is XBOX. but everyone I know has a PS2 in their house. the brand is very well known outside the US compared to the Xbox 360.

everyone knows that the PS3 will be very successful console, no doubt. where I live, the PS3 will outsell the Xbox360 in day one. not because the PS3 is better, but because the brand is well known. go all over the world, and you will see how powerful the PS brand is.

finally, it doesn't really matter which system is more powerful. what matter most is Games. now, the Xbox 360 has the upper hand in term of games. but 2007 is bring MGS4 , HS, MS, FF, DMC4 , F1 and Killzone, all AAA titles.

so I think we have to wait until 2008 to see who is the winner. for me, I really see that the PS3 will be the winner, but I really don't care, if they lost, I will have 360 and enjoy it. we should all be happy for this competition between MS and Sony.

I live in Florida in the USA and I am a electronic specialist at my local Target store. We currently have four PS3 consoles ( 2 60gb and 1 20gb), it took a week to sell one 20gb. The wii sold out within three hours of the store opening. People come into our store and they see the Ps3, and their first question is how much it cost, when I tell them them the price they turn around and walk away. I was a Playstation fanboy but then I realised that sony doesnt care about their consumers all they care about is winning format wars (UMD, Blu Ray). I am going to buy a Ps3 but not until it proves it self as a good console. By the way War hawk might be canceled.
