I feel sorry for the people that this happened to, as long as they didn't do anything stupid to make it happen.
Hope that it doesn't happen to me next Friday with the X1 as I would be pretty pissed with the amount of money spent on it, games and accessories bought and time off work booked if it didn't work.

I can almost guarantee at least one of the hardware failures is along the lines of "It was dropped on the floor, why doesn't it work?" Unfortunately following RROD from last gen we can't dismiss the story as easily this time around.

I remember this sort of response from MS last Gen.

"Microsoft Corp., for its part, says the problems are only affecting a very small proportion of its machines."

“a few isolated reports,” and said that in a launch of this size, there’s always “going to be some percentage that’s not going to work perfectly.”

“But it’s an incredibly small fraction and below what you would expect for a launch of this size,” said Microsoft spokesperson Claire Dabreo.

Please not again!

One is from Kotaku and one is from IGN. Two others were early console winners from Taco Bell. One cut out during an OS update (My suspicion he turned it off during an update but still shouldn't brick a console) and the other was playing and then HDMI failure.

They all seem to be based around the same sort of story though HDMI failure being the cause. There could just be a bad batch and employee 200657 in foxconn was having a bad day assembling parts.

It's a shame, there always seems to be some sort of problem with the launch of a console. 360 RROD, Wii U day one update causing freezes that could brick your console and now this. Hopefully this is just in the minority of cases, and that it's just bad luck that a few people who got the console early had failures.

Yes maybe they needed to update the update and that's not being sarcastic I mean this could well be the case. Consoles were probably not thought to be hitting homes until today at the earliest so maybe a few tweaks were needed.

It's the reasoning MS gave behind having to ban users who had received their consoles early from live.
