It is rather generous to include Escape from Butcher Bay with Dark Athena, if I were the publisher I'd have been tempted to stick the remade original up on Marketplace/PSN for extra revenue, so cheers to Starbreeze/Atari for that decision.

Game is sounding great, but I'm not sure I'll ever be able to play it without thinking about Simon and Garfunkel now. Grats on giving me something to look forward to.

Nice hands on preview of Dark Athena. Playing in Riddicks shoes again is going to be a marvel experience and of course a stealthy one indeed.

Butchers Bay provided a lot of jumpy moments and moments of when you don't want a guard to appear. I really hope that they keep some of them moments in there and from the sounds of things there sure is! I'm gathering the drones are going to be harder in some sticky situations, not just punching them all to death but with armour I guess? It shall be harder to get the quick jab with the knife.

Yeah, the Drones can be quite tough when there are lots of them about. There's a bit early on when you sneak through a cargo bay with several on patrol, and it feels a bit Metal Gear Solid. Only in the dark, with an FPS point of view.... And with a load of creepy androids.... And Solid Snake is a serial killer.

Question: With an income restricted by having two young kids, and my gaming time restricted by having two young kids, should this game be one of the handful I shall buy this year?

Have you tried the demo yet? It's brief, but gives you a quick taste of what the game has to offer.

Tom's handling the review for this one, so you should get his thoughts next week. I've only played the first couple of hours of Dark Athena but, as this preview suggests, I really enjoyed it. I can't wait to play more.

Obviously if you like the demo then it's worth your consideration. Especially since you'll also get the Butcher Bay remake - two games for your cash.

Agreed, the 2-for-1 aspect is quite appealing. And the demo is pretty good, if a little short (aren't they all?).
I'll wait for the big review next week I guess. I'd be interested to see if this one of the handful of games I can afford to buy this year Smile
