Will Pikmin 3 Save Wii U?
Even reading that title makes the whole argument seem preposterous. A disastrous console launch suddenly turned around by a second-tier Nintendo threequel? Not very likely, is it? Or is it?

Cred to you Denton, this was a GREAT read. Not sure if I'll buy a Wii U, but now I've really felt temptation for the first time. Though I'm not sure I'll grab one, this still makes me very eager to see what the future has for Ninty and the Wii U.
Cheers!

I agree a single game won't save a console, but it can be the final push you need to pick it up.

As Wind Waker drove me to impulse buy a GameCube, GTA III drove me to the PS2, Halo 2 drove me to the Xbox, Sonic drove me to the Megadrive, MSR to the Dreamcast... Interesting to note these were all system exclusives too.

These individual games were the final push I needed to stump up the cash. Pikmin 3 may not be the the final push for me, but it starts to build a reason to buy. I just hope Nintendo continues to give me reasons...

I think one of the things which kicked on the 3DS in the last month or so was the wonderful offer Nintendo made.

Not only did the console come down in price, but at the point where there were a number of really belting games being released at once, for Nintendo to then say "Tell you what, buy three and the fourth is yours" was amazing.

They then followed that with the offer of giving a free copy of Monster Hunter to anyone who had bought the game and had a friend who'd recently pitched in with the console. Fabulous.

If Nintendo could get such a state of play with the Wii-U and pull a similar offer, I think it could have a huge impact on the sales of the console.

I picked up my Wii-U for Monster Hunter, a game which sold out at retail and still commands full price in shops, and similar titles / franchises being snared by Nintendo may draw further gamers into the fold.

I genuinely love my Wii-U, and much of the impetus for buying it came from the lads at Midnight Resistance, where their podcasts on the console and Monster Hunter tempted this Dark Souls nerd to part with his money.

When the aforementioned 3DS offer kicked in, I ended up getting the Monster Hunter bundle there too, so Iwata's lot have had a fair bit from me this year.

Just hope more people take the plunge and get as much fun out of the console as I am. Smile

Woo, that reminds me - I still have Earthbound to play! Grin
