Used to use mine vertically however after I managed to bump it and ruin my HDD on my elite it's been sitting down. Did have the current one in a vault for a few months but even that was impractical. I would also say most of my mates also have theirs on their sides and I now wonder what the fascination was with vertical.

Simple. Space. My 1st PS3 was vertical and I had to do some re-arranging since the new one was a horizontal. My PS4 will be vertical.

this bothers a little just because I would rather have it standing next to my 360 , but I have space to lie it down elsewhere

Downstairs use is fine, it sits on a shelf under the TV, but I'll now have to work out space issues with my study. I might have to move a lot of stuff to get it in. Hmmm, time for my Dreamcast to go elsewhere.

Annoying, as I need it to stand vertically ideally to fit on my desk...... shuffling needed.

Surely they should supply a stand or something if their are issues with it standing up vertically? Most people prefer vertically simply because it saves space, trust me the xbox one is not going to be saving space while it is horizontal.

It depends how you have your space organised. The vast majority of people will have them stored horizontally on a TV shelf or similar, which takes up less space than having it stood vertically on the floor.

I think the PS4 looks better vertical, but I do feel it's a bit cheeky to charge people for the pleasure.

As if to prove how diverse this decision can be if I stood a console vertically in my setup it would actually take up more space than horizontally.
