Alien: Colonial Marines (Story trailer)
Okay, I have a genuine fear for this game.
Over the past 20 years the Sci-Fi genre has torn the Alien franchise to pieces and regurgitated every cool, stylish trick that it had over and over again. We've seen hundreds of corridors with flickering lights and burst gas valves. We've had assault rifles and flame-throwers of every type and flavour. We've had aliens and monsters of every kind jumping at us from the dark and we know a lot about suspense (Even though recent media has thrown the suspense rulebook out the window and settled for dumb, instead).
So, this leaves me wondering if an Alien game is going to be the most generic, predictable shooter of 2013. Not only will it likely struggle to separate itself from the shooter pool, but it might even struggle to identify itself in the Alien franchise. Whats the point of it? Will it be any different to Monoliths fantastic Alien vs Predator 2? Is this being made purely because the franchise will sell to desperate fans, rather than Gearbox actually having a really good idea that involves Aliens. Will it be inundated with "7/10 solid shooter that does absolutely nothing original for the franchise, but should shut the fanboys up until the next Alien instalment undoubtedly arrives"
But personally, even though I love Sci-Fi, love Aliens, love atmospheric horror games and love shooting things I just can't get excited about this. It almost makes me cringe in desperate hope that my fears aren't realised.
What about you guys? How do you feel about this and do you think there's space in the market for the original space horror to return? Or, is it "Game over, man! GAME OVER!"

|rbevanx|Nah I have faith in the game as they have been interviewed the staff on several sites and their knowlegde of the films is brilliant to a level that I class them as fans of the series.
Plus it's Gearbox and they know what they are doing, you can argue about Duke Nukem etc but they had to pay a lot of money for the rights/game and the engine of the game was all over the place from what I read.
Duke Nukem is also not as bad as everyone make out from very credible sources (Karlius and Clockpunk) and I'm still waiting to borrow Karl's copy!
But anyway really looking forward to it and the Aliens franchise is my fav series in films with Planet of the Apes a close second
So much so, I paid for this game in June last year for £29.47!

"they have been interviewed and their knowlegde of the films is brilliant to a level that I class them as fans."
But, we're all fans and the industry is a clear fan, too. We've all watched, researched, imitated and played a lot of what these guys have been studying. Is it not going to be an 8 hour, predictable romp? Or, perhaps that's what everyone wants.

Yes some are fans but their knowledge was so detailed and they have done such a good job re-creating the setting of Aliens (as seen from pics and trailer) that they are true to thier word.
They have also proven with Borderlands 2 that they have learn't greatly with writing from Borderlands 1 while not interfearing with the game it self unlike Max Payne 3.

Every trailer/movie I've seen so far for Colonial Marines has put me off it, it looks like every other generic Alien franchise game made. I'm a huge fan of the Alien universe (9-Disc boxset right here) but all the games so far just haven't done it for me. The last one I played was Alien 3. On the SEGA Megadrive.

Well Aliens vs Predator (original version) on PC was brilliant for it's time but I did like the recent one that came out a few years ago.
I think it's down to loving the series so much that I liked that game and Prometheus coming out in the cinema at the time, but the Predator campaign on there was just so bad!

If they can capture the same sense of fear from the first PC game then I'm in.
May pick this up for Wii U as the gamepad aspect would be cool with the motion sensor.

Am i the only one who loved the new Aliens VS Predator?

Well like I said before I enjoyed it but I think it was my love for the films that may have conflicted with my enjoyment of it.
Hated the Predator campaign though, thought that would be a sure fire to work out of the three.
