| Have you ever done this?
Whilst talking to a friend, I realised that I have actually on more than one occasion bought a game purely because I have felt some kind of obligation to. This was the case with Zack & Wiki. Sure, I enjoyed point & clickers in their day, but I didn't expect to enjoy Zack & Wiki. I still bought it, though, as I almost felt pressured to by various websites and forums I visit. Ah, but times were different then, and I was a lot more loose with the cash!
Another one is Call of Duty : Modern Warfare. I've never been a huge fan of World War II shooters, so I never played a Call of Duty game beforehand. When MW was released, my Live friendlist was literally full of it! I went and bought it mainly to be able to play with other people, not particularly because I cared about it. I didn't like it enough to play it an awful lot.
Currently, the entire online world seems to be talking about Street Fighter IV. I have been a fan of the series for the longest time, having even played the original rubber-bashem-buttoned cabinet, and would have bought it eventually no matter what. But, I wonder if there are people out there who feel like they are somehow meant to get it, and won't really be a part of the gang until they do? |

| Never, I know some genres/series just aren't for me. Typical examples include:
Street Fighter IV
Left 4 Dead
Gears of War 2
Anything with Mario in it
RTS
Flight Sims
FIFA/PES
Silent Hill
Resident Evil
Scream shout and gnash your teeth all you want, I know I'll be wasting my money because I won't enjoy them as much as other games I could have spent the same money on. |

| I'm not going to question disdain for certain genres, that would be pointless. But to refuse to play anything containing Mario? That strikes me as an odd decision, especially when you consider how many times his name appears in any Best Games Ever list. |

| I have bought games I wanted based on what xbox live friends are playing e.g. Call of Duty 4 suddenly became a priority when I saw I was the only one not playing it but it was on my wanted list, just not near the top.
Probably the closest I have come to it was when the Dreamcast was released and the media were playing on the fact that Sega needed it to be a big success after the sales disappointments of the Saturn and MegaDrive add-ons. I felt obliged to help Sega in their quest but ultimately I bought a Dreamcast because of the games rather than any obligation. |

| Money burns a hole in my pocket and I often buy games just out of the need to buy a new game! It doesn't help that both game and gamestation are right next to my bus stop on the way home from work - (curse them 2 for £30 offers), Loads are games I could quite easily do without and in the time I'm playing them I could be getting more replay out of other games. I just can't help it though - it's an addiction (sits in the corner, rocking, shaking and dribbling!) |

| I have a shelf of games I've only played for part of a day and then never touched again. I have purchases on Steam I've never used, and Xbox Live Arcade games I've barely even passed the first level on. I guess I'd say that when it came down to it, I probably didn't want them to start with, or just wasn't thinking. |

| I gave you a thumbs up for your honesty CheekyLee, I too fell victim to this once. I purchased the original Gran Turismo on the PS1 back in the day because everyone was raving about it and the screenshots looked lovely. Then I got home and rememberd I hated realistic driving games. D'oh. |

| I'm quite the collector, so I always buy games despite not wanting them. A fair percentage of my collection are still in the cellophane wrapping actually.
Saying this, even if I know I am going to play a game, I'll still buy it even if I think I won't like it. If a game is important at the time, or has a certain buzz around it, I feel it's my duty to play it, and understand what everybody is talking about. So I won't be playing it for fun neccessarily, more research I guess. |
