Every action...
Is the option to save whenever we want a good thing?

I'm playing Deus Ex at the moment, and I save my game before I do pretty much anything. I save before all enemy encounters, hacking anything and talking to NPC's who might be vaguely important.

I do this in case things go badly or if I then realise there was a better option, and I'm guessing some of you do too. Should this be an option for us? Is it good that we're allowed to play it so safe and not really worry about the consequences because we can just go back and try again?

On the other end of the scale, we have Heavy Rain, where every action is meaningful and irreversible. You worry about your next move because that's it and you can't go back. That said, not all games are like heavy rain, so are there games where such a save system would not work?

I'm trying to edge this towards a personal discussion rather than an objective one, because I imagine there will be quite a few different viewpoints. As usual I will offer my opinion later so as not to influence discussion Smile

Depends on the game to be honest. Deus Ex & Heavy Rain are two good examples, as I did that loads of times, why? Because, I wanted to make sure I could keep on my path where I wanted to take the characters. The other factor, is, the thought of something bad is going to happen, so I save without even thinking about it.
