Fallout 3 has a terrible difficulty curve
I'm sure I'm not the only person who has found this, but Fallout 3 seems really brutally unfair a lot of the time. When I first played the game I'd struggle to get from A to B without dying, and even putting the settings down to "very easy" I'd still get killed very quickly and enemies take like 3/4 headshots. This isn't even going to some secret base, it's just wandering around the wasteland.

I started a new game recently, and I'm still getting this problem. It seems you have to get to level 20 and horde loads of weapons and put everything you get into weapons stats to stay alive out there. And I'm now realising that the combat is really terrible. If you get hit you recoil and can't fire shots off until your animation is finished, and half the time your gun will be pointing at some completely random angle and blocking your shot. Seriously, I've played this game for well over 100 hours now and I shouldn't be having problems killing Rivet City guards on very easy with a laser rifle...

Am I just reeallyyy unlucky with this, or do people remember it being broken?

I do think that it is you, because I never had this problem and I have the PS3 and 360 version, but then again it might depends on what perks, weapons etc. you have.

i've got to say, that wasn'y my experience of the game at all. combat is hard at first, but it gets a lot better once you've levelled up a bit. By level 14 or so I was so powerful that fights barely presented challenge. In fact, I think that's one of Fallout 3's big problems.

What skills are you levelling up, and which weapons are you using? If you give me an idea of where you're at in the game, I can give you some advice that might make things easier (only if you like, of course)

What? Once you're about level 16 or so it's almost impossible to even die due to how overpowered your character is even on Very Hard.

The only part of the entire game that has any difficulty is that fire ant part.

THOSE GODDAMN FIRE ANTS JUST WON'T DIE AND EVEN WHEN THEY DO I'M STILL LOSING HP DUE TO BEING ON FIRE!!

I'm really glad New Vagas will have a Hardcore mode where stimpacks heal over time and you need to eat and ammo has weight etc, it sounds like it'll make the game more fun having to eat and stuff while also making the game a lot harder so you don't end up with millions of bullets and stimpacks.

I must admit mate that I didn't find this problem at all - I very rarely worried about dying - and felt like I was rock hard by about level 14.

As you level up are you trying to spread your points across too many abilities? I found it best to just concentrate on a couple of abilities and just play in the manner that these call for.

At first I found it a little difficult but after you get used to the controls and have stocked up on a couple of guns and ammo then it was fine. Most Raiders and creatures can be killed without much effort.

The odd super mutant might have caught me by suprise but most of my deaths were caused by shooting an abandoned car and not realising it was about to blow up. The game does get very easy, once you're level 20 then nothing should cause much of a problem not even Behemoths.

Same here - no real problems at all, especially once you build a stockpile of Rad-X, Rad-b-Gone (can't remember name) and Stimpacks.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the Hardcore mode of New Vegas, but if you are struggling, what difficulty do you have it on? It may have been set to the highest level somehow...

What? From Very easy to just a tad-medium?

I found it really boring and quite repetitive even near the end of the game.
