I discovered another gaming platform!
As if console, PC and Smartphone gaming weren't enough already, I've now discovered browser based gaming too. I sometimes wonder why I still bother with consoles to be honest.

Anyway, if you want to try out the likes of Need for Speed World, Battlefield Play4Free, Lord of Ultima, World Golf Tour, Top Eleven Be A Football Manager - basically every genre is covered, download the Chrome Web Browser, click on Chrome Web Store, click on games, wonder why you're still paying money for them when this is all free.

I'm currently hooked on Drakensang Online (Action/RPG).

Umm.... Maybe because some people aren't poor. Also for PC most games can be torrent. So.... This is really an opinion type of topic. Plus most games online the browser aren't high quality, but they can be fun though.

I'm fairly sure you don't have to be poor to enjoy free things. Have you been looking in our bank accounts?

@FM Browser-based gaming is something I've never looked into, going to have a gander right now so cheers for the thread.

Installed NFS World through Chrome. Simple, quick, fuss-free and I'm actually really impressed with the game. I was expecting a silly, stripped-down little arcade game, but it's got a lot going for it and it runs smooth and looks half-decent even on my laptop.

Going to install a few more. Cheers again FM, I'd never have considered this before.

I was in the beta for NFS World. Was actually gonna keep playing it, but it uninstalled itself when the the game went live, without asking me. Think it was due to region restrictions or something, but uninstalling without my permission just pissed me off.

You're welcome. I know browser-based gaming has been around for ages, but it was only when I took a quick look the other day to see how things were progressing that I was blown away by the sheer scope of good stuff that's now available (whereas before it was a pretty barren landscape).

It's just as if someone dropped a brand new console and a couple of hundred games in my lap and said "There you go, free."

As kittykatswell said, most of them aren't console/PC quality, but dig deep and you'll discover that some of them ARE. And they're mostly FREE(mium).

There's also the regular fun stuff, so if you ever want to have a quick blast at Bejewelled or try out From Dust you can have those icons just sitting on your browser homepage and ready to go with one click.

Google really have done a great job here, it doesn't seem to be a case of them just nipping at the heels of mainstream gaming, they're creating their own unique, accessible, cheap and impressive gaming environment, there must be a whole subculture of gamers using it by now. I wonder just how big that subculture actually is.

I was definitely expecting Angry Birds and a couple of throwaway titles, but there's definitely enough on there to tear me away from consoles for an hour or two. I prefer playing something on a laptop rather than my phone too, so it's perfect.

Google have really made it look attractive too and it's all neatly organised. Do you have any recommendations for things you've been playing?

Currently have NFS: World, Drakensang Online (RPG) and Bejewelled as my goto games. When I'm searching for new ones the best way I've found is typing the genre in the search box top left, e.g. "racing", "diablo", "rogue", "fps" and so on, I think I'll give Battlefield Play4Free a whirl next.
