Need For Speed World
How the hell has this release slipped under the radar entirely? Funnily enough I was reminded of its existence by a review on the Guardian website of all places. It's a free-to-play MMO on PC, and you can download it from EA for free by signing in to your EA account which you probably made for Mirror's Edge time trials or Mass Effect 2's Cerberus Network.

I'm downloading the client right now, and I'll give some opinions of it once I've had a go with it. I was rather hoping others could play it to get a feel for the MMO'ness rather than just driving aimlessly, and it would probably be quite fun to drive along side each other and block up all the roads Laugh

From what I can tell, based on a complete guess of what this game wants to achieve, this will be like Test Drive Unlimited except people will actually play it because it's free.

What controller do you plan on using dude, 360?

I'm not very versed on what exactly is involved but I would warrant a guess that it would be extremely frustrating with a keyboard.

TrackMania is very good with keyboard controls, but obviously some kind of controller will be more comfortable. I'll be downloading this as well, hopefully we'll all get some game time in.

From all the stuff I've read about NFSW it isn't worth downloading.

Weellll this was pretty bland to be honest. It didn't have any of the stuff that was in TDU like being able to drive out of your garage and just ride around being all cool and stuff. The driving is so boring and clinical that the hub world really has no purpose, because at the end of the day you might as well select a race from a menu.

That said, Need For Speed has never been about depth, so perhaps this approach will appeal to the audience where the main appeal is pretty much going to be racing people and abusing them when you win. (Un)fortunately that's not really the PC gaming demographic, so I think this game will be a horrendous failure :P

So, who plays PGR4? Anyone?

Yeah I had downloaded TrackMania on my old PC (which has since died) and enjoyed it for a while. I think the recommendation actually came from you on this site mate Smile I have not re-downloaded on my laptop but more because I'd forgotten it even existed rather than any other reason.

I'm still psyched for Hot Pursuit though. I can't wait to see exactly what Criterion can offer. The video I have seen so far suggests it will be a lot like Burnout Paradise but I guess that's not a bad thing and is to be expected to a certain point. Anyway, might ignore NFSW and focus on F1 2010, GT5 and the above mentioned Hot Pursuit which are now all too close to afford.

I don't really play games on PC but I was curious just incase it turned out to be a gem.
