Nintendo 3DS: Pick One Game
I've been building up some trade-in credit at Cex and it's getting to a level where I feel I shouldn't just blow it all on games, I should perhaps consider some hardware. I've been considering getting a 3DS again and my credit should cover a 3DS and a game. So 3DS owners, what would be the first game you would recommend to me.

My thinking at the moment is Luigi's Mansion as my 1st pick and in no particular order, New Super Mario Bros 2, Donkey Kong and Paper Mario.

I used to own a 3DS so no Mario Kart, Mario 3D Land or Ocarina of Time recommendations please.

I think Luigi's Mansion 2 would be good for a first game, although personally I would recommend Fire Emblem Awakening, if you are at all into turn based strategy games.

Kid Icarus is, quite good as well, although I wouldn't put it at the top my recommendation list. And it's also really hard to find a copy of that game nowadays.

If I were you I'd hold out on FE:A until after you've played Shadow Dragon. SD is categorically the worst game in the series, so you may as well get it out of the way and work your way up. Tongue

Dammit, Dave, I JUST deleted your friend code!

If you are only getting one game, then it probably comes down to a straight fight between Fire Emblem: Awakening, and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate. Both have absolutely tons of content with which to keep going, although MH3U does take quite some time to really sink its teeth in. You will be loving FE:A from the first minute.

However, going from the 4 you have mentioned and only those 4, then I would probably say it's a fight between DKCR3D and NSMBU2. Luigi's Mansion 2 is great, don't get me wrong, but there are just other games that are better.

Also, don't rule out Animal Crossing. However, I would issue a warning alongside it; your daughter may well steal your 3DS if you do!

You can't get rid of me!

It all depends on stock and their condition, I'm quite fussy that way, I don't want something that's been given a right good battering.

I've got a funny feeling I removed my account from the eShop as I didn't think I'd be back. Shame as I would have had a few games available to me.

The 2 you mention are games I have considered but games I can't help but feel I'd need to try before I buy. Animal Crossing looks and sounds pretty dull but I've been absorbed by The Sims before and could never explain why.

You said you no longer had a 3DS. Did not really seem worth keeping you at that point, and Animal Crossing has literally forced my list right up to the 100 limit! And, eShop isn't really based on an account, as such, it is instead based on the serial number of the console that purchased the games. It would theoretically be possible to system transfer from the old console, but only if you knew where it was.

FE:A does have a pretty good demo on the eShop. The MH3U demo is an odd one, though. It is brilliant, but only if you already know what the hell you are doing in a Monster Hunter game, being as it is set way after the massive extended tutorial. For a new player, it is simply terribly frustrating, and you would need to play it multiple times to really get any kind of feel for the way the game works. And even then, it's just half of it, as there is none of the "Craft armour and weapons from loot drops" aspect to it.

Just go onto Twitter and type "#ACNL" into the search box. Or, check this search to see just how many people are playing Animal Crossing, and how surprisingly non-dull it can get. It defies all logic, and I have never quite been able to explain to anybody just what the appeal of the 'game' is!

Well if I get a 3DS then put me on the waiting list to get back on your friends list.

Animal Crossing does seem to have quite a following, I'm intrigued.

Personally I feel that Luigi's mansion is ideal. Animal crossing just seems a bit of the Sims, and Fire Embelem seems incredible, but I don't really understand why. If anyone understands them, please explain it

A) you need a 3DS XL
B) Aniiiiiiiimal croooooooosing

Considering it is played every single day in my house by all 4 of us, I'd say it was a pretty good choice.

Stage 1 complete, now the owner of a 3DS again. Next step is to sort out the game.
