Old School classics to recommend?
Hey, Peoples!

So I'm doing this "getting into the gaming universe" thing and playing through the awesomeness that are old school games. You can find the list of the games I bought already here (top post on page 4).

Anything you would like to recommend playing? I'm taking ANYTHING from the beginning of 90's, as long as I can buy it somewhere. I'll give you credit if the game blows my mind.

Currently I'm being satisfied by Deus Ex (GOTY) up to an orgasmic level. I mean, what a game! Too bloody long, but freakishly amazing.

It'd be great if the game is actually on Steam, GOG, GamersGate or any other similar digital downloads shop, so I don't have to go to those antique retail shops asking for games.

Old School? 90s?

I feel old.

Plenty of classic Amiga/Atari ST games around then, plus PC stuff.

On PC:

Xwing vs Tie Fighter and Epic
Day of the Tentacle
Sam & Max Hit The Road
Dune (adventure game)

on Amiga
The Settlers (also on PC)
Walker
North & South
Another World and Flashback.

Thing is, none of these will graphically 'blow your mind', but all of them were more than impressive to play. You really have to transport yourself back to that time.

Considering the new version is just around the corner, allow yourself to get excited by the sheer brilliance of the old XCom games. (Complete pack linked, but individual titles are available cheaper if you just want to try one.)

Also, can't go wrong with a bit of DOOM.

To agree with pb ,( I'm a bit older! ) Day of the tentacle & Sam 'n' Max were simply stunning games. Bring back 'point n click' adventures! Play at your own pace, no online hassle, Perfect. Maybe I'm just getting old & nostalgic!!?

Bloody hell - I could probably list about 10 full posts worth here... but if I was limited to one series, I'd have to go for that of the the Dungeon Keeper line...

I guess that counts as 'old school' now...?

Thanks, Peoples! All good suggestions! Currently the oldest one I'm playing at the moment is Earthworm Jim, and I already got Doom. It's weird how those games grip my attention even without being nostalgic, as I've never played them in the past - I can just feel the love behind them lol.

Damn I should probably get some old school consoles then...

If you want to expand on the subject, you're more than welcome to, you'll just be helping me out. I'm not as young, but I just missed out by not playing any of that during the 90's, I'm trying to catch up now.

To be honest, I envy that nostalgia feeling of yours right now.

Original Half Life is amazing, if for some chance you haven't played that already.
