The Secret World ARG Event!
NOT a spam, but this thing seems pretty interesting thus far so I thought I would mention it here.

I've played a few ARG before, or at least games with real world interaction anyways, but this one's probably the most interesting one I've tried thus far. If you play TSW then you should've gotten your invite already, but if not check out http://www.thesecretworld.com/arg.

People are getting strange e-mails and/or txts already, with the first phase leading to... well, I'm still trying to unlock the mystery, but I'm not gonna spoil it for ya by revealing what they have released thus far.

It's creepy as hell, and worth checking out even if you are not a player of the main game.

I've never done an ARG, but because I like TSW I may check this out...

I did the first mission today! Was kinda cool, I'm really into the video stuff they do beforehand and the mission itself was simple, but kinda cool.

Unlocked a sweet monk outfit for myself too! Looking forward to mission 2.

I'm shocked I managed to figure out test #1, considering how much trouble I had unlocking the broadcast part by myself.

This ARG isn't as deeply intregrated into the real world as the ones I have tried before, but it's still pretty interesting. I love how TSW uses real and fake websites, even Youtube clips, as part of their game. The use of real world e-mails and phone numbers adds to the event too.

If you haven't already check out some of the forums and wikis - it's amazing how into this people are, digging up hidden videos, pics, text translations, and websites. The whole secret world theme is perfect for this, with everyone getting all paranoid and second guessing themselves, looking for truth in patterns that may or may not exist.

Btw not sure if you guys have mentioned this on the site, but The Secret World, have just gone the no-subs route (similar to Guild Wars), so right now this is a good time to return to the game if you already own it.

Btw speaking of ARGs look up an old PC game called In Memoriam.

The premise was that a couple of journalists were looking into a series of murders, when they suddenly disappeared, believed to be captured by the killer. Running out of time and fearing for their safety, all the info were released to the public, in the form of the game, with the hope that players like yourself could help solve the case and help rescue the couple.

I remember getting e-mails from ingame characters, from agents and other "players", giving me urgent clues, with hints leading me on a hunt through all corners of the net and the game itself, frentically searching for clues and solving puzzles before time ran out.

I played this years ago when it first came out - I don't remember a lot of the smaller details, but I do remember the game being pretty intense, and it blurred the lines so much I actually thought it was real at times. Good times.
