What is Your Favourite Final Fantasy?
Apologies if this has been posted before. I had a look through the forum but could not find anything.

With the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD remake on the horizon as well as the PS4 launch of the updated Final Fantasy XIV and with it being easier than ever to obtain and play through the Final Fantasy back catalogue (well... everything apart from XII) more and more people can experience the games than ever before.

Heck my 13 year old cousin asked me the other day if he should buy 7 and 8 because they were cheap on Steam. It's amazing the world we now live in.

I may be more forgiving on the older games because I played them when they came out. So it would be interesting to find out what peoples favourite Final Fantasy is and when they played it.

For me it's Final Fantasy 8.

I know many didn't like the draw system and various other elements of it but I enjoyed the story far more than 7's and enjoyed the combat more too. I played it when it first came out... in fact I still have a sealed version of it somewhere too which I found for £5 in Toys R Us many years ago.

I would say my top 4 is:

1) FF8
2) FF7
3) FF12
4) FF9.

My ranking:

1) FFVII
2) FFVI
3) FFX
4) FFIX
5) FFIV
6) FFVII
7) FFI
8) FFXII
9) FFXIII

Not including the online ones as they're a bit different, though I did love them both.

7 was my first, and will always be my favourite largely because of that, but I did love 6. Those two are very close in my mind. Same as 10 and 9, both very close for the number 3 spot. 9 has a bit more open world stuff, though I prefer the setting and story and 10.

12 and 13 are both very low down for me. I hate that they tried to dumb down the combat, I loved the complexity of the others (specifically the materia system in 7, which was fantastic).

IX is my personal favorite, with VII a close second.

Top three:

1.)Final Fantasy 6
The story was amazing and epic. The character abilities were unique and fun to use. The towns were so well plotted that I wish I could visit one in RL.

2.)Final Fantasy 5
The story was OKAY. However, the genius was in the job system which allowed for killer combinations of classes.

3.)Final Fantasy
The first outing was a grind-fest, but the RPGs never felt the same again. The part that impressed me was seeing my avatars using weapons and casting spells and seeing the effects on monsters. This was a far cry from Dragon Warrior I (Dragon Quest)'s presentation

I've always meant to get back in to 6.

I got excited when I found it for £15 on PSX (which at the time was a steal) and began playing it but my save was corrupted and I never went back to it. I have just installed it on my Vita along with Tactics but I need to complete Persona 4 Golden before I jump in to another RPG really.

It's hard to name one but for my money the only good Final Fantasy games appeared on the PS1. Seven, eight, and and nine were all outstanding, and since then the only JRPG I've enjoyed was Lost Odyssey.

Never played one through six so I can't comment on them. But I will say all of them from ten onwards I've just found terrible in both gameplay mechanics and character design.
