I would like to hold an online tournament for this website simply to find who is the best gamer*. But in order for this to work I need the buy in from as many people as possible, which is where you lot come in.

Having discussed this with a fellow forumite already I can only really see this working one of two ways.

Firstly, we split it up by console and genre/game. We select a few games per console, each one representing a genre of gaming. We then have either a table (ie. fastest times) or a knockout tournament to find the best player. We would need to minimise the number of games as much as we can, or else it will get silly.

Or we say "To Hell with the consoles" and just play a selection of flash games... highest scores win.

It's not perfect I know, and there are always the logistics to sort out, but I'd be interested in having peoples opinions on this. From an organisational point of view the flash games would be easier, but I don't know if people would be that keen.

So here are my questions to you...

Is this something you would like to take part in (staff and forum as it's not official)?

Would you be happy if we used flash games?

*At one game, yes, I know.

In.

Organisationally, there are actually plenty of ways around this, depending on how many people join in. For example, if we have 4 console owners, then that is a 'group' They can then play each other in a mini-league, to get a winner. Group winners (and possibly runners-up) then play each other to find a console champion. Champion vs champion in a neutral game, possibly flash or Quake Live.

Or, stick with flash games, and pick one per week. Play from now till the end of the year, apportioning points based on position on the leaderboard.

Lee might have just got it then. Also if people dont have certain games, there might not be a game ALL people have. So they cant play that certain fixture so they will be behind. unless differant games are worth more than other in which case how can you distinguish which genre is worth the most? I vote for flash games but with some way of proof such as print screening Smile

Logistically setting up something multi-platform will be very difficult. And I'm not a big fan of using screenshots as that relies on everyone behaving gentlemanly.

It seems as though the only platform we all have in common is the pc, however I haven't used one for video games (flash games aside) for many years. Ideally I would like a flash game that would allow us to set up our own league, or at least keep track of each others scores. If any of you know of anything like this I'd be interested to hear. Otherwise we could look to do something on Steam, but again this is not an area I am familiar with. Again, suggestions welcome. Smile

Cheers.
