In response to CheekyLee's post
When I tried to set up a Hover Kart Racing game, it copied a link to my clipboard, which was for me to send to people via email/IM program/microblog/social network. So, I guess we could just tweet that? Or post it in this thread?

Ok, that doesn't sound too hard to set up. We just need to agree on a communication method and then get people to make sure they sign up (if necessary).

Twitter sounds good to me. Anybody got any objections to using Stephen Fry's Micro-Blogging Network (aka Twitter)?

Twitter can kiss my ass, if you'll excuse the bluntness of my objection Wink

What's wrong with sending messages on the forum? We all log in here virtually every day.

Incidentally i'm up for this and i also endorse some form of flash-related gaming. I'll see about signing up to the flash-gaming site later this evening.

Also i can recommend: http://www.instantaction.com/ for some decent browser games, just takes a small install and has users and leaderboards etc. Some good games there, and some of them are only a small payment to get the full thing.

I would like to hold an online tournament for this website simply to find who is the best gamer*. But in order for this to work I need the buy in from as many people as possible, which is where you lot come in.

Having discussed this with a fellow forumite already I can only really see this working one of two ways.

Firstly, we split it up by console and genre/game. We select a few games per console, each one representing a genre of gaming. We then have either a table (ie. fastest times) or a knockout tournament to find the best player. We would need to minimise the number of games as much as we can, or else it will get silly.

Or we say "To Hell with the consoles" and just play a selection of flash games... highest scores win.

It's not perfect I know, and there are always the logistics to sort out, but I'd be interested in having peoples opinions on this. From an organisational point of view the flash games would be easier, but I don't know if people would be that keen.

So here are my questions to you...

Is this something you would like to take part in (staff and forum as it's not official)?

Would you be happy if we used flash games?

*At one game, yes, I know.

Forgiven, but there are ulterior motives for me wanting to use Twitter which I have not yet mentioned.

FYI...
The way I see this is that this could be an opportunity to spread the videogamer.com brand across the tinterweb. Using an external microblogging site to do this seems fit for purpose. However I am yet to hear back from the vg owners as to whether or not they will endorse us using their name. If they say no then I see no point in going external, and we might as well do it via the forums.

Oh god...I swore i'd never use twitter because i only ever see people twitter pointless crap and i already have enough of that with FB. I suppose if i'm only following people from here it probably won't be that bad. Ugh. I suppose if needs must :P

Oh and incidentally Ninjutsu, instant action games aren't flash games, they're just browser based. Think Free Realms, the games are quite big and expansive.

EDIT: Signed up to omgpop.com. Profile name 'Octopus Volcano' and i forgot how awesome some of the games on instant action really are. Lore: aftermath is a particular favourite SmileLast edited on Wed 4 November 2009 by Endless

Ok, good stuff Endless.

All we need to do now is find out if it is possible to hold private matches on some of the more exciting games (i.e. not scrabble and not jigsaws). Admittedly the Bubble Bobble type game is quite a laugh, but I'd prefer something with a bit of driving and/or guns.

Hmm, I was a beta member at Instant Action, but that has long since lost any meaning.
