SHINY NEW VIDEO THINGS
Hello chaps/chappettes!

This is sort of a formal introduction, and a manifesto of sorts for the next year. Smile

Myself and Mr. Nellis (aka Pair of Matts) have some exciting plans for video on the site in 2013, and we'd like to update you lot on what we're up to, and get you involved with some of the ideas. We've got plenty of new stuff, some tweaked old ideas, and a better emphasis on regular features.

Here's what we've managed to cook up so far, but obviously nothing is ever set in stone - if you guys don't enjoy the stuff we're making we're clearly doing something wrong, so feel free to pipe up and let us know!

- Extended Plays are here to stay, and if anything you can expect to see more of these. We might not be able to cover every new game, but we'll do our absolute best to try.

- Live Stream Tuesdays aren't going anywhere either - we'll grab the newest and best games we can, and do our best not to excessively swear.

- Let's Play Classics is a new idea, giving us a chance to revisit some of the older games that we still love. XBLA versions of old console games and websites like gog.com give us access to a bunch of great stuff, but we definitely want suggestions from you guys about what we should play.

- Indie Spotlight is a bit of a riff on VG classic 'Indie Bin'. As much as we loved the original pun, the negative connotations are a bit harsh! The indie games scene is thriving at the moment, and we're keen to keep an eye on all the cheap little games that are easier to somehow miss. Suggestions for this are going to be vital, so let us know what you think we should play!

- WTF Fridays is another new creation, straight from the demented mind of Dave. Every Friday afternoon we'll have a Live Stream of us playing games that are strange, obscure, or just downright bad. Think of it as some form of self-applied torture.

We'll defo have other random stuff in between, but we're aiming to have the stuff above happening on a weekly basis.

I don't see what was wrong with Disc Lickers. I think a lot of what's been wrong with VG's video content it the continuity of it.

For example, the two episodes where the VG guys competed against each other on Bomberman etc. Disc Lickers which doesn't sound like it's coming back.

Also, with Extended Plays I'd trim the fat a little and choose an impressive mission to showcase and probably don't spend as much time on the title screen.

I think Super Extended Plays need to be completed in a short amount of time e.g. one month in order to maintain interest. Or, you could just not complete a whole game, just do multiple sessions. For example, when GTA V comes out I imagine people will want to see a lot of that, but a Super Extended Play probably wouldn't be feasible.

I think VG's biggest problem is its video content: There just isn't enough of it IMO. I'd like to see another video guy in the future.

Edit: To actually contribute an idea I'd say a hidden gem feature, where you play something that's brilliant, but unrecognised, but not just indie darlings.

A feature where you play something competatively / co op online (notlocal).

Or a really long super extended play where Dave plays Civ V on marathon setting!

Great. When does it all start?

And what's happening to the Xcom videos? Have they finished?

Mobile Moments - Where you get to show a little love for all things portable e.g. iOS/Android/Windows/3DS/PSP etc. This segment of the games industry really needs a little more spotlight on mainstream websites. A lot of mobile games also play in Chrome/Facebook so you could stream from there, otherwise it's a case of fixing a camera over a small screen. Check out Cytus, Hill Climb Racing, Texas Holdem Poker Deluxe etc, all free on Android.

For Lets Play Classics:- PlaneScape Torment, Deus Ex, Crysis.

Personally speaking, this is the video series I miss the most. I'd love to see this come back.

I completely agree with Neon Soldier, it's fine starting these series but will they actually last? Not meaning to rip on you personally Matt Lees, obviously you've just joined this isn't your fault, but series are ending way too early.

Moreover I also agree that you should focus more on the game and less on menus and other cr*p that nobody will really care about.

Also, I tend to watch reviews as much as I read them right now, because it's normally quicker and I can see the gameplay as well as hear the reviewers opinion. I know I've brought this up before but PLEASE do some video reviews, even if it's just a trial run. I know there is a fair amount of effort you need to put into creating video reviews but personally I think it would be worth it.

Finally, are you going to finish the XCOM play through or will that crash and burn like the rest?

Sorry to seem negative, here's a smiley to make up for it Smile

Yeah Disc Lickers was really good and I would like to see that come back, maybe have segments in Disc Lickers rather than have half the show of highlights from X-Com etc.
Maybe you could have Let's Play Classics and Indie Spotlight as segments in the show rather than have so many seperate videos.
With the challenge videos make them do silly challenges like in the old GamesMaster show.

Also on classics being played SNATCHTER!!!!

Also The Dig, Day of the Tentacle, Robocop vs The Terminator, Cool Spot, the first three Resident Evil games and Eternal Darkness.

Eternal Darkness has to be played by Dave as that's a classic in the making!!!

Love the idea of WTF Fridays. Brilliant

Agree with the sentiment that the video content needs to be more consistent. I really liked Disc Lickers wish that would come back. Like Neon-Soldier I also think the extended plays could be trimmed down a bit.

Also, all this live stuff doesn't do anything for me because I can rarely, if ever attend during the time periods due to my hectic schedule. But I'm probably in the minority there.
